Motozoo cresce a Magny-Cours: Giombini riduce il gap, ma le penalità condizionano il weekend

The ninth round of the FIM Supersport World Championship, held at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, confirmed the progress made by Motozoo Racing by MadForce Dubai and Andrea Giombini, competing aboard the MV Agusta F3 800 RR.

On a particularly technical circuit that the Italian rider was facing for the first time, the French weekend provided encouraging indications, especially in terms of performance. Session after session, Giombini was able to improve his lap times and, most importantly, reduce the gap to the leading riders compared with previous rounds.

Once again, however, this progress was not fully reflected in the final results due to a number of penalties that affected both races.

In Race 1, Andrea had to serve a Long Lap Penalty following a penalty received after qualifying for riding too slowly in one sector of the track. Despite this significant handicap, Giombini responded well: after serving the penalty, he maintained a strong pace and was able to recover ground and positions throughout the race.

Race 2 proved even more eventful. Giombini made a strong start, but the red flag brought the opening laps to an end and required a new starting procedure. At the restart, Andrea moved slightly before the lights went out and received a penalty, once again compromising a race in which the Motozoo rider had shown that he could maintain a competitive pace and battle within the group ahead of him.

Beyond the final classification, Magny-Cours nevertheless represented another step forward in the development programme undertaken by Motozoo Racing by MadForce Dubai. Closing the gap to the front runners was the most important result gathered in France and confirmed the improving performance of both the MV Agusta and its rider.

The objective for the upcoming rounds will now be to start from a more competitive baseline from the opening sessions, making better use of the available track time to learn unfamiliar circuits more quickly and, above all, avoiding penalties that can compromise the work carried out and the improvements made in terms of race pace.

Fabio Uccelli – Team Manager, Motozoo Racing by MadForce Dubai: “It was a weekend where, if you look only at the results, it might be difficult to see the progress we made. In reality, the most important factor for us is that we have reduced the gap to the front, and from that point of view we are satisfied. Andrea continued to improve throughout the entire weekend on a circuit he had never raced at before. Unfortunately, the penalties affected both races. In Race 1, after serving the Long Lap Penalty, he recovered well, while in Race 2 the jump start once again complicated our race. We need to work on eliminating these situations because our pace is improving, and now we need to turn that progress into results.”

#88 Andrea Giombini: “Magny-Cours was another completely new circuit for me, and it is definitely not an easy track to learn. At the beginning of the weekend we were still too far away, but session after session we managed to improve and reduce the gap, and that is certainly the most positive aspect. Unfortunately, the penalties did not allow us to fully show the pace we had achieved. In Race 1 I had to serve the Long Lap Penalty, but I managed to recover, while in Race 2, after the red flag, I moved slightly too early at the second start and that affected the race. It was a shame because, once I found my rhythm, I was able to stay with the group ahead of me. We need to keep working, especially to be closer to the front from the beginning of the weekend and to avoid mistakes and penalties. The gap is getting smaller, and that gives us confidence for the next races.”
